Mary would have to reach deep down inside of herself to overcome the truth of her loss. The shadow of it had darkened her days since that singular moment in time when he was torn from her life forever. She knew the hurt would eventually subside, but it seemed, no matter how hard she tried to get beyond it, her heart would not relinquish the pain.
Immersing herself in her studies she kept the shadows at bay, and as each day passed, the reminders faded little by little and the pain, though still very much evident, began to lessen. Then, without warning, Rodger entered her life, and her heart rebelled, casting a spell of hope that she might feel love once again. But how could she betray the trust of love lost in the face of love hoped for?
Rodger was in love with Mary, but he was also his own worst enemy when it came to relationships. Inadvertently he would set a wall between them; a wall so high that neither of them could see over it. A wall so strong that only truth could break through it. Where would that truth come from? Would it be enough to free their love for one another?

Before I begin, I need to preface that this is not my typical genre of books, it has been quite sometime since I have read a historical romance. That being said, once I was able to put that aside I found quite a number of things that I liked about this sweet and very innocent romance. Mary and Rodger's story takes place in the early 1960's. The author is able to really bring this home in his knowledge of that era. The slang reminded me of Happy Days and the feel of that era, is one of lost innocence. Times were simple. Children weren't spoiled by instant gratification. Couples were able to connect on a level that society has lost over the last fifty years. Yes Mary and Rodger had their challenges to overcome as we all do.The Warm Prairie Sun is all about family values. Something that I find in our nation today, to be sadly lacking in. I enjoyed being taken back to a time forgotten, where things were simpler. If you wanted to communicate you had to actually write a letter. Who does that today? Writing letters has become a lost art. The story line is simple and sweet, it's about a girl and a boy finding love.

The Warm Prairie Sun edition by Lloyd Wright Jocelyn Roberts Carolina Barnard Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
I love historical romance; it's one of my favorite genres-but this book isn't the usual historical romance I read. It's well written and has a great love story, but it had too many details and was set in a time period too recent for my tastes. A perk of the descriptions is that if you've ever wondered what it would be like to live on a working farm, you will definitely get a chance to live it through the characters' eyes in this book-even down to making butter.
Great story, readable by all ages
